MPRN stands for Meter Point Reference Number. It is the number that is used to identify the gas service at your property, meaning there is a unique MPRN for every single gas service in every building. You may also recognise the term ‘MPAN number’, this is the Meter Point Administration Number your electricity supplier will ask for and shouldn’t be confused. Your gas supplier will always ask for the Meter Point Reference Number upon setting up a new account.
Your gas supplier should only need to request your MPRN on one occasion, this will help them to identify your gas meter and track where exactly they’re providing gas to. It’s useful to keep this number handy, so you can provide it if you encounter any problems with your gas supply. We may also ask for your MPRN , should you require one of our services such as moving your gas meter.
There are numerous ways to find your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) and the good news is that it’s a quick and easy job to do. Here are a few ways to find your MPRN :
If you do not have an MPRN but you do have a gas supply without a meter you will need to arrange for a live / dead check. This can be done by filling in this form (Live/dead check form | Cadent (cadentgas.com). Once the live / dead check has been carried out if there is a confirmed live service we will look to create an MPRN for it.
If you already have a meter on site but no MPRN then please contact a supplier of your choice and advise them you would like to register your supply. They will then initiate the Meter Number Creation process for you.
