A road closure is in place in Spinks Lane from the junction with Bridge Street. The closure is for approximately 80m up to Witham Leisure Centre. Access is being maintained in the rest of the road and all businesses and facilities in the road, including the leisure centre will be open for business and usual. The closure is currently anticipated to remain in place until Monday afternoon (November 20).

A ‘catalyst’ fuel station in Lancashire, which uses gas made from food waste to power HGVs, has been shortlisted for a national environment award. The compressed natural gas (CNG) refuelling facility in Leyland, a partnership between Lancashire’s gas network Cadent and CNG Fuels, has been named as a finalist in the environment category in the Utility Week Awards 2017.

A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named Amanda has completed London’s newest tunnel under the Thames after a lightning drive under the river. The new tunnel is 330m long with a diameter of 1.8m and has two 30m tunnel shafts, one in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the other in the grounds of Battersea Park.

Work recently got underway on the essential project which involves replacing the old gas mains with tough new pipes which should last for many decades and help ensure local people keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas pipes for cooking and heating.

Starting in March and originally scheduled to end in December, the contractors working for gas network Cadent are now off site in Royton, having inserted a new plastic pipe (equivalent in diameter to a big car tyre) into the existing, ageing, metal main.

A public exhibition will be held this Monday (November 6) on essential work to future-proof ageing gas mains on the Chelsea Embankment. Engineers are planning to replace vintage gas mains with tough new pipes that will keep Londoners connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for decades to come.
